Joiku is not Jaiku, so what is Joiku?

October 15th, 2007 · No Comments

Along with the rest of the blogosphere I’m well aware of the good fortune$ of micro-blogging startup Jaiku, and its recent acquisition by Google, so when a press release landed in my inbox today for something called “Joiku,” it caught my eye. The rather odd copy reads thusly:

“Joikusoft Oy Ltd. today announces Joiku.com, a new type of web user community around free mobile primeware. The maximum effect to Joiku.com comes from the metal band Amorphis rocking the community with a harsh sound of North.

Joiku welcomes web users, content suppliers and advertisers worldwide to take part of this journey… “

I thought to myself, “this is either brilliant wording, or a train wreck of a release, because I’m definitely interested.” I don’t know what this “maximum effect” might be, but it sure makes me curious about the “harsh sound of North.”

Sadly, that’s about where the fun ended for me. The site itself contains references to “delivering information about people, places and feelings” using Joiku’s mobile “primeware.” I’m not sure what that means, or even what primeware is (someone enlighten me). All I could gather for sure is that they make some sort of mobile software, they are based in Finland, they like Shamans, and their English could use a little work.
