TechCrunch v PayPerPost Heats Up

September 7th, 2007 · No Comments

Michael Arrington and Ted Murphy, of TechCrunch and PayPerPost, respectively, are engaged in another round of finger-pointing publicity. The post that started today’s debate can be found here .

Mike, as is well known, thinks PayPerPost is a corrupting force in the blogging community, warping the will of the (arguably) noble blogger. Mike is on the record as comparing PayPerPost’s service with selling your soul. So, with that unabashed opinion, does it make it hard for TechCrunch to report objectively on the successes and failures of PayPerPost?

Ted Murphey, for one, says yes. Not only that, but he believes Mike is trying to get make a business of bashing PayPerPost. In his second rebuttal comment here Ted argues that Mike is posting about PPP to generate more buzz, and the stats do seems to bear this out. So far at about Noon (EST) there are 76 comments for the controversial “racism” post, against an average of just over 31 comments per post for all other articles on the front page.

No matter who’s right or wrong, this one is far from over.
