TechJournal South reports that Don Rainey is departing from Durham-based InterSouth Partners, leaving them without a DC team member, at least for the time being. Rainey is taking a position with Grotech Capital Group, another Mid-Atlantic VC firm.
There a couple quick takeaways to be had here. It looks like Grotech is moving toward a more purely technology focused portfolio and will look to leverage Rainey’s extensive tech background. As peHUB notes, Grotech is also simultaneously distancing itself from its healthcare investments with the loss of Terry Hyman. For InterSouth this will cause some mild reshuffling and a search to find someone that can keep them involved with the DC, Northern Virginia, and Maryland market.
